Philippine micro-satellite Diwata-2 will be sent to the outer space within this year from Japan, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara told PNA. Specific date is not yet available.

It can be remembered that Diwata-1, the first micro-satellite assembled by Filipino scientists, was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in March 23, 2016 and launched to the outer space on April 27, 2016.

“What’s good about about the Diwata-2 is that it carries more refined instruments, and it also has an amateur radio made in the Philippines,” Guevara said.

“This time, the microsatellite would carry something that was made here,” she noted.

She said the same team that worked on Diwata-1 is working on Diwata-2.
