Wisest, fastest is for US to help re-arm PHL military: DFA chief

Security & Defense

“The wisest most expeditious alternate to one or the other view is for the US to help re-arm our military (it prefers US weaponry as I kept telling the US) and enhance our self-defense capability; leaving the initial decision to fight to us in our best light,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said in a statement posted in Twitter.

The statement was made after his meeting with United States Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo where they “discussed the vital support of the United States to the AFP’s Modernization Program.”

“Ideally mutual defense should cover a partner’s back as well as its front. Secretary Pompeo and I agreed that it was in both our countries’ interest to ensure that the alliance effectively address other non-traditional security issues such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; and, above all, the fight against human trafficking,” Locsin said in joint briefing with Pompeo.
