The Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Patriot (MCM 7) arrived in Cebu for a port visit, July 22. While in Cebu, sailors aboard Patriot will participate in multiple cultural engagements and community service events.

“The U.S. and Philippines share strong historical and cultural links. It’s an honor to visit and be a part of the longstanding friendship between our two nations.” said Lt. Cmdr. Jon Volkle, commanding officer of Patriot.

The visit to Cebu is a unique opportunity for Filipino-American crewmembers to reconnect with their roots. “I was born in the Philippines but I’ve never been to Cebu, so I’m excited to see and experience the culture,” said Engineman 1st Class Rayvan Dayap.

Patriot is part of Mine Countermeasures Squadron 7 and is forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan. Patriot is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of regional peace and stability. CPF.NAVY.MIL
