The United States Department of Defense (DOD) announced on September 27, 2018 that it awarded Erickson Incorporated dedicated rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft to the US Pacific Command (USPACOM) area of responsibility (AOR).

“The USPACOM AOR is defined as, but not limited to, continental Asia, Philippine islands, and countries supporting operations in the Philippines,” US DOD said in the contract overview.

The contract involves $28,447,076 fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity.

“Fiscal 2018 operations and maintenance Funds in the amount of $28,447,076 were obligated at award. U.S. Transportation Command, Directorate of Acquisition, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, is the contracting activity,” US DOD said.

Kevin Cochie, VP & GM, Erickson Defense and National Security, said “Erickson is proud to perform this mission in support of the Department of Defense and the Warfighters.”

“Our combination of experience supporting these operations, and ability to utilize the B214ST Helicopter, a platform where we are Bell’s product support provider, enables us to offer exceptional value and performance to U.S. Government customers,” he added.

On November 7, photos, captured by John Libert Roa of Philippine Plane Spotters Group, of what look like a number of Bell 214ST helicopters transported by an Antonov transport aircraft in Davao City surfaced online.

“These helicopters ARE NOT FOR THE PHILIPPINES, but are actually owned by US aviation contractor Erickson Inc., and are in the Philippines to support US Pacific Command (US PACOM) operations in the country,” MaxDefense Philippines said.

“US troops are in the country to support the AFP in counter terrorism operations, and now also as part of rotating forces under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA),” MaxDefense noted.
