Magdalo Partylist Representative Gary C. Alejano and Senator Antonio Trillanes were among the invited guests who visited the said aircraft carrier.

“Guests composed of businessmen, diplomats, media people and government officials were received by the Commander of Carrier Strike Group 9 and the Captain of CVN 71 Theodore Roosevelt,” Alejano said.

Alejano said the ship’s port call to Manila signifies US’ resolve to challenge expansive claims of China over South China Sea, an international water.

“It also conveys an assurance to the Filipino people that they are ready to support the country, as our treaty ally, should the need arises,” he added. “The visit is a way also of projecting its military power in the region where China has becoming increasingly aggressive to smaller countries which have competing claims with her in South China Sea.”

It will conduct variety of operations including addressing shared maritime security concerns, building relationships with partner navies and enhancing interoperability and communication with partners and allies throughout the area of operations through exercises and ship visits.
