Russia, PHL discuss training of Filipino soldiers in Russian military schools

Philippine Army Commanding General Lieutenant General Macairog S. Alberto visited the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation on July 8 in Moscow, Russia on invitation of Russian Ground Forces Army General Oleg Salyukov.

According to Philippine Army, during the meeting between officials of two armies, issues of bilateral military cooperation, training of Filipino servicemen in Russian military schools and participation of Philippine teams in the International Army Games were discussed.

Philippine Army officials also visited the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation where they were acquainted with the academy’s organization, types, and peculiarities in training the officers.

They also visited the Tank Guards Command of the Western Military District and the Research Institute of Precision Machinery.


“We recognize the evolving security threats that our country faces and international cooperation is necessary to effectively address them. Our Russian counterparts’ experience in combat against various threats and the subsequent training will enhance our own capabilities that will help us in accomplishing our mission,” Philippine Army Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala said.
