Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 formally inaugurated a new two-storey training facility for the Presidential Security Group (PSG) – an elite force that is tasked to provide physical security to the President and Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines.
“This newly-constructed building will provide the much-needed conducive learning environment of our PSG trainees who risk their lives in ensuring the safety of the heads of the state and their immediate families,” said Secretary Villar.
According to Secretary Villar, the new PSG Training School costing P40 million was built within a 2,964-square meter area inside Malacañang Compound in San Miguel, Manila, which houses four (4) classrooms for up to 200 persons; a mess hall that can accommodate 150 persons; and an activity area for 50 persons.
The school also has an audio-visual room for 40 persons; male and female barracks that has 60 bunk beds each for up to 120 persons; a dining area for up to 30 persons; and a visitor’s barracks that can accommodate 32 persons in maximum.
After the inauguration, Secretary Villar also led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an additional P35.95-million PSG Female Barracks, which will augment the existing female barracks for additional 10 units.
Each unit can accommodate up to 8 persons or up to 80 persons for the entire elevated single-storey building that will be built within a 500 square meter lot.
“Building these new facilities of our PSG is our way of showing our gratitude as the welfare of the valiant men and women also ensures the safety and welfare of our nation”, said Secretary Villar. DPWH
