“The president broke his silence and left us heartbroken,” Senator Ping Lacson said in a statement posted in Twitter reacting to President Rodrigo Duterte’s initial statement regarding the Recto (Reed) Bank incident on June 9.

“He forgot to explore all resources available before exercising his last option of surrender,” Senator Lacson said.

He noted that the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT with United States “is one yet untapped weapon. I am not suggesting WW3 (world war 3) but at least it can make China feel the balance of power in the WPS (West Philippine Sea).”

President Duterte said at the anniversary celebration of Philippine Navy that “kung ako lang ang papiliin niyo, gusto ko ng action. But I am not in my boyhood age anymore.”

“You do not send grey ships there. Banggaan lang ng barko ‘yan. Do not make it worse because there is a – that’s a fertile ground for [war],” he said.

“I do not now issue statement because there is no investigation and there is no result. Then the only thing that we can do is to wait and give the other party the right to be heard. Importante ‘yan eh,” President Duterte added.
