The Philippines has “fired off a diplomatic protest” in connection with the incident in Reed Bank where a Chinese fishing vessel hit a Filipino fishing vessel.

“Thanks, meanwhile I fired off a diplomatic protest yesterday,” Foreign Affairs Secertary Teddy Locsin said in a Twitter post commenting on outgoing Senator Antonio Trillanes’ recommendation to refer the incident to Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) since both Philippines and China are State parties to the IMO.

“The Maritime Safety Committee of the IMO is it; but, Sonny, that I will proceed on the merits of the case and what it calls for while the matter is studied by the IMO. Even our ally failed us in Scarborough, remember?” Locsin added.
