Security & Defense

The Philippine Navy’s unit operating its air assets was upgraded into a wing status from being a group. According to Philippine Navy spokesperson Captain Jonathan Zata the Naval Air Group was upgraded into Naval Air Wing today.

The upgrade coincided with the blessing of 2 AW-159 anti-submarine warfare helicopters from Leonardo. Today, the Philippine Navy celebrates its 121st founding anniversary.

The 2 AW-159 helicopter, acquired under Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Program First Horizon, will be part of the upcoming frigates being built by South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries.
