The Philippine Navy needs 42 Multi-Purpose Attack Crafts (MPACs), this was bared by Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad during the missile capability demonstration of 3 MPACs installed with Israeli Spike-Extended Range (ER) Missile Launching System (MLS) on November 22.
“Based on our matrix, dapat magkaroon tayo ng 42 of these type of vessels, MPACs,” Vice Admiral Empedrad said.
He noted that the Navy already operates nine MPACs with 3 installed with missile system. He added that next year three more MPACs will be delivered with same missile capability.
“So kung sabay-sabay gumalaw yan, when we are under siege, I think this will do harm to any threat whether internal or external,” Empedrad said.
The activity on November 22 simulated an attack from armed hostile surface vessels which was successfully deterred and neutralized by the combined efforts and effective interoperability of Navy air and surface assets.
“Two spike ER missiles were fired and accurately hit hostile targets during the simulation. The full-armed firepower system of AW109E naval helicopter was also put on display as it performed air strike to neutralize the targets,” the Navy said.
