Outgoing Philippine Air Force (PAF) chief Lieutenant General Galileo Kintanar, Jr. will be offered with new position at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Headquarters (GHQ) in Camp Aguinaldo, Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.
He added that AFP-Western Command (WESCOM) commander Lieutenant General Rozzano Briguez replacing Lieutenant General Kintanar as PAF chief is part of a movement and not due to helicopter acquisition projects.
“It’s a movement, either ang iniisip nila is umakyat siya doon sa GHQ. Pinag-uusapan pa nga nila ngayon,” Secretary Lorenzana said on December 7.
The official turnover for PAF leadership is on December 21.
However, the defense chief said it is Kintanar’s option to retire early. Kintanar will reach the mandatory age of retirement from military service in January 2020. “But he is being offered another position at GHQ,” Lorenzana said.
He added that the helicopter acquisition projects have nothing to do with the movement in PAF top leadership.
“‘Yung helicopter [acquisition projects] hindi pa napipirmahan ‘yan eh. Pag-uusapan pa ‘yan ng senior leaders ng GHQ, ng DND. And it will have the final approval ‘pag pinili na namin ‘yun, ako ang presiding dun eh,” he explained.
