Navy officials visit donated Korean corvette

Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad and Philippine Fleet commander Rear Admiral Giovanni Bacordo together with other Navy officials visited the donated South Korean Pohang-class corvette in South Korea.

The said donated corvette will be serving in the Philippine Navy as BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39). The corvette is expected to sail to Philippines in July.

BRP Conrado Yap was named after Philippine Expeditionary Forces to Korea (PEFTOK) Medal of Valor awardee Philippine Army Captain Conrado Yap.

Captain Yap served as one of the 1,468 Filipino troops comprising the PEFTOK.

He was posthumously awarded “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life against overwhelming enemy forces at Yultong, North Korea on 22-23 April 1951.”
