Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command commander Lieutenant General Arnel B. dela Vega said that Joint Task Force Sulu will be launching more assaults against terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group.

This is after troops of the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion encountered 150 Abu Sayyaf Group members under Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan in Sitio Sungkog, Barangay Kabbon Takas, Patikul, Sulu at 11:30, February 2.

The heavy firefight that lasted for one hour and fifty minutes resulted to deaths of 5 soldiers and wounding of 18, and deaths of 3 terrorists and wounding of 15.
