The prime suspect in the January 27 Jolo cathedral bombings, Kamah Pae together with four other persons surrendered to the government, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Director General Oscar Albayalde said in a press conference February 4.
“After a full week since the unfortunate incident of a deadly explosion in Jolo, Sulu, I share the optimism of the people of Jolo to return to their normal activities and to move on,” General Albayalde said.
“I’m pleased to announce the surrender over the weekend of Kamah Pae and four other persons who performed individual roles in that incident,” he said.
Albayalde noted that the five surrendered due to the massive hot pursuit operations by troops from the PNP and military. He also said that explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) K9 and SOCO discovered assembled IED and IED components at the house of Kamah.
“A case of multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder will be filed today against the five suspects before the provincial prosecutor of Sulu,” General Albayalde added.
“The five suspects belong to a group of twenty-two Abu Sayyaf personalities led by Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan that are believed responsible and conspired for the terrorist attack at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cathedral where 23 persons died and 95 others were wounded,” he said.
General Albayalde added that fourteen more suspects are at large including mastermind Sawadjaan.
