Amphibious units from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) together with some of their amphibious assault vehicles (AAVs) are currently in the country for the “Kaagapay Ng Mga Mandirigma Ng Dagat” (KAMANDAG) 2018 exercise.

American and Filipino Marines, together with the amphibious units from JGSDF, will undergo counter terrorism and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) training from October 1 to 10 in various Philippine locations.

KAMANDAG 2, a Philippines-led exercise, aims to conduct military exchanges between Philippine, Japanese and US forces that will enhance cooperation and interoperability between all three militaries.

“Military service members from all three countries will work together in order to develop improved techniques and procedures, enabling them to learn and grow both tactically and culturally,” the US military added.

“KAMANDAG 2 will increase overall Philippine, Japanese and U.S. readiness, improve combined responsiveness to crises in the Indo-Pacific region, and further reinforce our decades-long partnerships,” the US military noted.
