Israeli armored vehicle maker officially comes to Philippines

Israeli GAIA Automotive Industries Ltd. is officially establishing presence in the Philippines after it signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Stone of David Corporation for cooperation on the marketing and promotion of tactical vehicles, including technology transfer last September.

According to MaxDefense Philippines, a GAIA official confirmed that the local branch, which would be officially named GAIA Automotive Philippines, was finalized this week and will be opening their local armored vehicle manufacturing and fabrication plant this coming February 2019.

“In addition, we received confirmation that GAIA will be bringing in an Amir 4×4 MRAP and 2 Thunder 4×4 light armored vehicles to the Philippines by April 2019, which we mentioned last September 2018 with our information from their CEO Mr. Shlomi Shraga in Israel, although the date was moved due to circumstances,” MaxDefense added.

This is after Stone of David announced mid-December that its joint venture with GAIA won the Multi-Purpose Armored Personnel Carrier (MPAPC) and Accessories Acquisition Project of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF).

The contract involves two (2) units of MPAPC with mobile assault ramp; seven (7) units of MPAPC with multi-weapon remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), 40mm automatic grenade launcher and caliber 50 heavy machine gun with spare barrel; seven (7) units of MPAPC with multi-weapon remote controlled weapon station (RCWS) and caliber 50 heavy machine gun with spare barrel; 103,000 rounds caliber 50 linked ammunition; 7,000 rounds 40mm grenade linked ammunition; and 6 towing bars.
