“Based on new photos on the construction of the first of class BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150), looks all blocks are now in place, with the mast block already installed recently by Hyundai Heavy Industries,” MaxDefense Philippines said in an exclusive update regarding the construction of first of two ordered frigates from South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).
MaxDefense added that “external works are now focused on the ship’s exterior finishing, and all other works on that needs to be done before sections of the ship that goes underwater won’t be accessible anymore once the ship is launched.”
It also noted that works on the interior, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical are all ongoing.
In March, Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said that the launching of future BRP Jose Rizal is scheduled in May.
“Ibig sabihin ng launching ng first frigate is yung barko ay tapos na yung ginagawa sa kanya sa dry-dock, so ibaba siya, mag-fofloat na siya sa dagat from the dock of the shipyard,” Vice Admiral Empedrad explained.
“After the launching of BRP Jose Rizal, ito naman ‘yung keel laying ng ating BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151), ‘yung second frigate,” he added.
Delivery of first frigate is expected first quarter of 2020.
