President Rodrigo Duterte told hotels operating near Manila Bay to do something about their waste. He also announced that a clean-up drive for Manila Bay is in the pipeline.

“Whether they like it or not, lahat itong… Itong mga hotel, iyong palabas ninyo ‘yung mga t** ng mga turista. Kaya ko kung t** ng Pilipino pa ‘yan kung t** ng mga kung sino-sino diyan,” he said during the Barangay Summit on Peace and Order in Pasay City on January 8. “Lagyan ninyo ng water treatment ‘yang hotel niyo, ‘pag hindi, sirahan ko ‘yan.”

“Huwag mo akong hamunin. Eh kung wala tayong turista, eh ‘di wala. Hindi naman tayo mamamatay. You do something about your waste there or otherwise I will close it. Sigurado ‘yan,” he said.

He said he told Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources Roy Cimatu and Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Eduardo Año to launch Manila Bay clean-up.

“[S]abi ko kay Roy Cimatu – si General Cimatu pati si General Año: You start cleaning the Manila Bay. And it will be. They will start to clean it,” President Duterte said.
