BRP Andres Bonifacio, international warships depart Pearl Harbor for sea phase of RIMPAC

“The Philippine Navy frigate BRP Andres Bonifacio (FF-17) departs Joint Base Pearl-Harbor to begin the at-sea phase of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 10 (Hawaii time),” the United States Navy said.

Philippine Navy landing platform dock BRP Davao Del Sur (LD 602) also left Pearl Harbor on the same day together with other warships of participating navies for the sea phase of RIMPAC 2018 which will be held in the Pacific Ocean off Hawaii and Southern California.

Warships started to depart Pearl Harbor on July 9 (Hawaii time).

Among the anticipated drills in RIMPAC 2018 are live firing of a long range anti-ship missile (LRASM) from a US Air Force aircraft, surface to ship missiles fired by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and a Naval Strike Missile (NSM) fired from a launcher on the back of a Palletized Load System (PLS) by the US Army.

A total of twenty-five nations, more than 45 ships and submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC that will end on August 2.

Participating nations are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.

In the harbor phase, Philippine Navy’s special operations forces – Naval Special Operations Group (NAVSOG) and Marine Special Operations Group (MARSOG) – have participated in drills like Urban Operations, Amphibious Assault Vehicle Familiarization, Combat Life Saving, Ground-Air Integration, Heliborne Raid Operations, Small Boat Insertion, Shallow Water Egress, Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction System (FRIES) Training, and Combat Marksmanship Drills.
