The Western Mindanao Command through the Naval Forces Western Mindanao welcomed Her Majesty Australian Ship Childers (ACPB 93), an Armadale Class Patrol Boat of the Royal Australian Navy in a ceremony at Zamboanga City Pier on May 20, 2019.
The arrival of the Royal Australian Navy Ship HMAS Childers (ACPB93) marks the commencement of the 7th Combined Maritime Training Activity between the Philippine Navy and Royal Australian Navy which started in 2017.
The City Mayor of Zamboanga, Maria Isabelle G Climaco-Salazar, welcomed the men and women of HMAS Childers with the Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Steve Robinson AO.
In the message of the Commander, Western Mindanao Command, Lieutenant General Arnel B Dela Vega AFP, he emphasized that the conduct of the Maritime Training Activity will contribute to a great extent on the overall strategy of Western Mindanao Command in the desire to fulfill the Command’s mandate that evolves around good governance, security and development.
The 7th Combined PN-RAN Maritime Training Activity will be from 20 May 2019 – 07 June 2019 and will cover the Naval Task Group Sulu and Basilan Area of Operations.
The conduct of the MTA will further enhance the maritime interoperability, professional competence and operational capabilities, mutual cooperation and understanding between the Philippine Navy and Royal Australian Navy.
The Philippine Navy as a whole is assured that the strong defence relationship and continuous conduct of combined maritime training activity with the Royal Australian Navy will further improve its capabilities and service to the maritime nation especially in the Western Mindanao region.
