The Philippine Army held a capability demonstration and information caravan at the Philippine Military Academy on May 20 to 21, 2019 to inspire the cadets on their journey as future officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The two-day event at the county’s premier military academy at Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City also served as a send-off activity to the batch of PMA cadets joining the Army who are graduating this month, as no less than the Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto led the different Army units as they showcase their respective capabilities on the grounds of the academy’s Borromeo Field.

Army units from the 5th Infantry Division, Army Personnel Management Center, Special Forces Regiment (Airborne), 1st Scout Ranger Regiment, Light Reaction Regiment, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Unit, Mechanized Infantry Division, Aviation Battalion, 525th Engineer Combat Battalion, K9 Battalion, Training and Doctrine Command and the Army Signal Regiment displayed their skills in urban warfare missions and rescue operations using state-of-the-art equipment and weaponry to an audience of PMA cadets, civilian guests, officers and enlisted personnel.

The cadets, as the primary audience, were treated to the effectiveness and efficiency of the military working dogs, explosive and hazardous materials facilitation and disposal, hostage rescue operation, medic action to casualties, and enemy neutralization. To the surprise of the audience, celebrity and Army reservist Matteo Guidicelli took to the stage as he revealed himself as one of the participants in the capability demonstration.

During the lunch with the cadets, Guidicelli received his commissionship as probationary second lieutenant in the Army Reserve Force, with the Army Commanding General donning his new rank.

In his speech, Lt. Gen. Alberto gave the cadets a peek into what it means to be part of the Army. “If you really want to serve the people, join us. We need volunteers in the Army”, he added. Philippine Army
