The Philippine Air Force (PAF), through its Tactical Operations Group 2 with one of its C-295 medium tactical transport aircraft has transported injured residents of Itbayat, Batanes to Basco, Batanes.

This is after twin earthquakes hit the northern part of the Philippines early morning of July 27.

The injured Batanes residents were admitted to Batanes General Hospital.

“Six (6) seriously injured Itbayat residents were airlifted to Basco, Batanes via a PAF C295. The patients were then brought to Batanes General Hospital for further medical attention,” PAF said.

Before airlifting Itbayat residents, the PAF aircraft transported Disaster Response Task Units from the 505th Search and Rescue Group and S-7 team flew from Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base, Pasay City to Itbayat.

“The Office of the President is closely monitoring the after effects of the twin earthquakes, reportedly possessing respective magnitudes of 5.4 and 5.9, which struck Itbayat and Basco, Batanes early this morning,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said on July 27 in a statement.

“The President has been briefed on the situation and he directed all agencies to respond and undertake measures to provide assistance to the victims of this force majeure and rehabilitate the damaged properties in the areas,” Panelo said.

“With risk reduction measures at place, the government has prepared itself to react quickly to disaster occurrences like earthquakes while we commit our best to saving maximum lives and properties during such situations and bringing normalcy back in the soonest possible time,” he added.
