Eighteen members of the communist terrorist group’s Yunit Milisya voluntarily surrendered to the troops of Alpha Company, 33rd Infantry (Makabayan) Battalion in Midtungok village, Sen. Ninoy Aquino town, Sultan Kudarat at 11:00am today.

2nd Lt Dennis Gamos, the Executive Officer of Alpha Company, received the surrenderors and their firearms in the hinterland sub-village of Lemangga.

Narding Sunap a.k.a. Sulong, 43, the group leader, said that they wanted to be ‘cleared’ by the soldiers after being recruited as the ‘first line of defense’ of the hardcore members of the New People’s Army.

“Ka Makmak issued us weapons to defend ourselves in case the soldiers will enter our village. My main job is to raise crops in our communal farm,” he said.

Pu Mapulo, 29, said that they feared the offensive operations of the government forces after the recent surrender of two of their young members.

“They might have revealed our identities to the soldiers. We wanted to surrender before it is too late,” said Mapulo in broken Ilonggo.

Tired and emaciated after their long trek in the forest, the surrenderors were treated to a boodlefight by the soldiers.

They will be formally presented to Mayor Randy Ecija Jr. of Senator Ninoy Aquino town on October 8, 2018.

More than 200 members of the communist Guerilla Front 73 have surrendered to the Makabayan Battalion since May 2017. 33IB
