Tulfo insists Pinoy construction workers are lazy, slowpoke

“To the Filipino construction workers: Why should I apologize to you for telling the truth that you’re basically lazy and a slowpoke? Does the truth hurt,” Special envoy to China Ramon “Mon” Tulfo Jr. said in Twitter on March 9.

On March 7, Tulfo told CNN Philippines’ On The Record that according to developers he encountered prefer Chinese workers because they are diligent.

“Alam mo bakit nila preferred, ‘yung mga developers, ‘yung mga Chinese workers? Masipag. ‘Yung mga Pinoy workers, mawalang galang lang ano, ‘pag pupunta sa job site tsaka lang doon sila magpe-prepare ng kanilang mga tools, whereas ‘yung mga Chinese preparado na. Tapos sigarilyo nang sigarilyo, salita nang salita. ‘Yung Mga Chinese workers diretso na, di sila nag-uusap, talagang trabaho,” Tulfo said.

“‘Yung mga Pinoy they take time, they sweep time, pupunta sa CR, iinom ng tubig, iihi,” he added. “May nagsabi pa nga sa akin, what takes Chinese workers eight months to finish a certain project, sila, ang mga Pinoy, isang taon.”

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) disagreed with Tulfo’s statement.
