Returning Kuwait OFWs to receive financial aid; government looking for alternative jobs

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the government is looking for alternative jobs for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who will be leaving Kuwait.

“Iyong mga gustong umuwi, mabibigyan naman po ng immediate P5,000 financial assistance, P20,000 to begin another livelihood galing po sa OWWA,” Roque said.

“Pero lahat po ng ating mga misyon ay binigyan na rin ng order na maghanap ng alternatibong trabaho para doon sa mga aalis ng Kuwait,” he added.

He added that the government is looking into countries that have signed International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions respecting rights of migrant workers.

“Ang binibigyan po ng prayoridad, iyong mga bansa na lumagda na ng mga ILO Convention na kinikilala po ang karapatan ng mga migrant workers, at tinitingnan po natin iyong mga bansa kagaya ng Oman at Bahrain na walang kahit anong reklamo pong pang-aabuso sa ating mga kapwa Pilipino,” he said.
