Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia and newly-appointed National Statistician Dennis S. Mapa gave an update regarding the implementation of the national identification system during the Cabinet meeting on June 10, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act into law in August 2018.

“There will be a pilot testing which will run from September to December 2019 to register a substantial number of Filipinos nationwide,” Panelo said.

“By the end of the President’s term in 2022, 107 million Filipinos are targeted to be registered,” he added.
