Duterte’s drug war example to world, me: Sri Lankan President

Politics & Governance

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said during the State Banquet hosted by President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang that he feels Sri Lanka should follow Philippines’ footsteps in war against drugs.

“Excellency, the war against crime and drugs carried out by you is an example to the whole world, and personally to me,” Sirisena said in his Toast Remarks.

“Drug menace is rampant in my country and I feel that we should follow your footsteps to control this hazard,” he added.

Before the banquet, President Duterte said during the joint press briefing after a bilateral meeting that they “both recognized that the proliferation of illegal drugs is a threat to our nations and peoples and to the very fabric of [our] growing societies.”
