President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law Republic Act 11235 an Act Preventing and Penalizing the Use of Motorcycles in the Commission of Crimes by Requiring Bigger, Readable and Color-Coded Number Plates and Identification Marks.

The new law shall be known, in short, as Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.

“The LTO shall issue a readable number plate for every motorcycle, The LTO shall, in the implementing rules and regulation (IRR) of this Act, determine the font style and size of the bigger, readable and color-coded (by region) number plates,” says in the new law.

“[T]he contents of the number plates shall be readable from the front, the back, and the side of the motorcycle from a distance of at least fifteen (15) meters from the motorcycle,” it adds.

The new law also requires that procurement of plates should involve utilization of voluntary and paid labor from prisoners.
