Duterte chooses Army chief as next DSWD secretary

President Rodrigo Duterte, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced on October that Philippine Army Chief Lieutenant General Rolando “Rolly” Bautista would be the next Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) secretary.

“The next DSWD Secretary… Rolly Bautista,” President Duterte said during a dinner he hosted for the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association Incorporated (PMAAAI) .

Bautista will be retiring from the military this coming October 15 and is set to replace DWSD Acting Secretary Virginia Orogo once officially delegated.


Bautista was first offered the position of National Food Authority (NFA) administrator.
