A young Local Terrorist Group (LTG) member yielded to the troops of the 49th Infantry Battalion at the unit’s Advanced Command Post in Barangay Poblacion Bayabao, Butig, Lanao del Sur at 12 noon of September 11.
Amer Ador Gandawali, 19 and a resident of Barangay Sandab of same municipality, handed over one Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) Heap and its launcher.
The successful surrender was facilitated by the 49IB’s Charlie Company, MILF JCMP representative Maliksaif Masjeda, and the local officials of Butig.
“We are delighted that more militants are now returning to the mainstream of society. It is but a greater achievement to end terrorism in a peaceful way than engaging in armed confrontations,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
Gandawali was a member of the group under former LTG sub-leader Ali Amintao, a.k.a While Lawaan, who fought the government forces during a focused military operation conducted by the 103rd Brigade in 2016.
“With our strong collaboration with other line agencies and stakeholders, we are confident that significant headway can be achieved in our quest for peace and stability in Mindanao,” Lt. Gen. Sobejana added. WESTMINCOM.COM
