The construction of new world-class Mactan-Cebu International Airport Passenger Terminal Building is now 89% complete, the Department of Transportation said on January 27.
Expected opening of the new terminal for commercial operations is in June 2018.
The development of Mactan-Cebu International Airport Passenger Terminal Building is a public-private partnership between Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority, and GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC).
The partnership is 25-year Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT) scheme. Construction of new terminal building started in mid-2015.
“The project involves the construction of a new world-class passenger terminal building in MCIA, with a capacity of about 8 million passengers per year; and the operation of the old and new facilities,” the PPP Center said. “The construction of a new world-class passenger terminal, including all related facilities, is proposed to separately cater to domestic and international operations.”
GMCAC said the enhancements of existing terminal made possible the efficient accommodation of over almost 8 million passengers despite a design capacity of only 4.5 million passengers per annum.
“The terminal will be brought into service by 2018, increasing the airport’s handling capacity to 12.5 million passengers per annum,” GMCAC said.
