Basilan Congressman Mujiv Hataman on September 1 turned over a speedboat funded by previous Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) for Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM)’s operations.
WESTMINCOM commanding general Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana received the keys and manuals of the speedboat in a ceremony.
Four more speedboats, as additional naval capability, to the Joint Task Forces Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Central will be turned over.
According to Hataman, the speedboats are part of the PHP30 million allotted to procure five speedboats for the Joint Task Forces of the WESTMINCOM by the then ARMM.
“It’s a small deed to repay the AFP for all its hard work and perseverance to secure Mindanao,” said Hataman who is a former ARMM governor.
Sobejana said the speedboats will be utilized by the Joint Task Forces in maritime interdiction, border patrol, and transport and strategic insertion of troops in their operational environment.
