Philippine Navy’s Naval Forces West (NFW) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command (WESCOM) have honored the outgoing troops who helped protect Philippines’ sovereignty in West Philippine Sea.

“As a tribute for their selfless service rendered as vanguards of some of the Philippine-held Islands in the West Philippine Sea, an Awarding Ceremony for the outgoing Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) security personnel was held” on January 26, NFW said.

“Said awardees are personnel from Headquarters NFW, 3rd Marine Brigade, Naval Special Operation Unit-4 and MSAC-W respectively,” NFW added.

The troops received Kalayaan Campaign Medals and Military Merit Medals.

NFW said “the awarding of the outgoing KIG security personnel is a regular practice of WESCOM and NFW to honor the heroic deeds of every personnel assigned in the disputed Islands.”
