We will lose if arbitral award raised in UN: Locsin

“We will lose in UN which is dominated by countries grateful to China for its indisputable generosity in development aid,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said in Twitter in addition Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo’s remarks that raising the arbitral award on West Philippine Sea to United Nations (UN) is a “futile exercise”.

“We’ve always lost Non-Aligned Movement votes to include our Arbitral Award. My many good friends in UN vote against us. We’ve nothing to comparable to offer,” Locsin said.

This is after former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario suggested bringing up the said ruling during the 74th UN General Assembly.

Del Rosario said the UN General Assembly is “an excellent venue because all countries will listen and the Philippines can present a case for the UN to reassert that right is might and the rule of law must be upheld.”
