We have 2 documents proving WPS sovereign rights – defense chief

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said during March 11 Laging Handa press briefing that the Philippines has 2 documents proving sovereign rights over West Philippine Sea.

He made the statement when asked regarding the possibility of West Philippine Sea dispute will be affected by donated Chinese COVID-19 vaccines.

“We have two documents to prove that the West Philippine Sea ay mayroon tayong sovereign rights diyan, sa West Philippine Sea,” he said.

The defense chief said the 2 documents are the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 arbitral ruling.

I don’t think there is some strings attached there. Some people might think that, pero sa tingin ko naman na nitong mga nakaraang taon ay marami namang ibinigay sa atin ang Tsina at wala naman tayong naririnig sa kanila na katumbas or something in return,” he added.
