We do not tolerate incursions from anybody – AFP chief

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief-of-Staff Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana said, during his confirmation hearing before the Commission on Appointments on March 24, that the military does not tolerate incursions in the country’s territorial waters.

Lieutenant General Sobejana said the AFP deployed assets to conduct maritime patrol (MARPAT) in Julian Felipe Reef to verify presence of Chinese vessels and 183 vessels were confirmed to be in the area.

“As the protector of the people and the security of our territory, I directed the Philippine Navy to deploy additional naval assets to the West Philippine Sea to increase visibility and ensure the security and safety of our fishermen, our marine resource, and the integrity of our territory,” the AFP chief said.

“We do not tolerate incursions in our territorial waters from anybody. We stand by our mandate,” he added.
