Vietnamese navy visits Filipino counterparts in PHL-controlled WPS island

The Philippine Navy has hosted the Vietnam People’s Navy for the one-day Fourth Personnel Interaction in Parola Island, the third largest island the Philippines controls as part of Spratly Islands in West Philippine Sea.

“The event started off with a message from both heads of delegation, followed by a symbolic handshake among players prior to the goodwill games and sports, which includes volleyball, football, tug of war, centipede race, sack race and palo sebo,” Philippine Navy Naval Forces West (NAVFORWEST) said.

It added that the event was capped by cultural performances that highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship, better understanding , camaraderie and cultural exchange between the two navies.

“Joint training events such as communication and tabletop exercises were also conducted to enhance interoperability between both contingents as an additional activity of the said interaction,” NAVFORWEST said.

“The Philippine Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy Personnel Interaction provides an avenue for enlarging and sustaining the good relationship between the two navies and this will further enhance such understanding in the areas of maritime security, socio-cultural, economic and regional and international cooperation in the West Philippine Sea,” it added.
