VIDEO: PHL Navy ship launches US assault amphibious vehicles for first time

Philippine Navy landing platform dock BRP Davao Del Sur (LD 602) has launched for the first time on July 23 assault amphibious vehicles (AAVs) assigned to Combat Assault Company of United States 3rd Marine Regiment.

The boarding and launching of AAVs in Pacific Ocean were part of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018.

“This is the first time that Davao Del Sur has conducted operations with US Marine AAVs,” the US Navy said.

The Philippine Navy is slated to receive 8 AAVs ordered from South Korean manufacturer Hanwha Techwin, formerly Samsung Techwin. Four are expected to be delivered in April 2019, while final four are expected August 2019.
