US, PHL troops hold live fire drill utilizing air, ground assets

“The CALFEX event showcased the orchestration of air and ground troops to seize an objective during Exercise Balikatan,” the US Navy said.

“The exercise was designed to integrate the Philippine military with US forces in a combined arms scenario and expose them to the benefits of integrated fires,” it added.

Among those who witnessed the live fire drill were US Marine Corps III Marine Expeditionary Force commander Lieutenant General Lawrence D. Nicholson and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Vice Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Salvador Mison Jr..

Balikatan 2018 is currently ongoing and will end on May 18. It is an annual US-Philippine military training focused on a variety of missions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, counterterrorism, and other combined military operations.
