Marine Aviation Support Activity (MASA) 19.2, a semiannual military exercise between United States and Philippine, is taking place starting today and will run through July 25. The exercise focuses on mutual defense, counterterrorism, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
According to US Embassy, US Marines and aircraft from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 and 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, based in Okinawa, Japan, will be partnering with Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) soldiers during this exercise.
“This iteration of MASA focuses on building interoperability and enhancing the capabilities of both the AFP and US armed forces,” the US Embassy said.
The US Embassy noted that Philippine and US service members will conduct cooperation and interoperability training consistent with the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) and Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).
“Military training exercises like these allow the US to strengthen our longstanding security alliance with our friends, partners, and allies in the Philippines,” it added.
