US aircraft carrier ordered to remain in Middle East amid Iranian threats

“Due to the recent threats issued by Iranian leaders against President Trump and other U.S. government officials, I have ordered the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) to halt its routine redeployment,” United States Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller said in a statement January 3.

“The USS Nimitz will now remain on station in the U.S. Central Command area of operations.  No one should doubt the resolve of the United States of America,” Miller said.

USS Nimitz is the flagship of Nimitz Carrier Strike Group (CSG11). Embarked on the said aircraft carrier is Carrier Air Wing 17.

Also part of CSG11 are guided-missile cruisers USS Princeton (CG 59) and USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), and guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104).
