Aside from United States Marine Corps’ F-35B Lightning II aircraft embarked on US Navy amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), US A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and F/A-18C Hornets are also participating in Balikatan 2019.
Balikatan 2019 will officially start April 1 and will run until April 12.
USS Wasp with embarked F-35Bs arrived in Subic on March 30, while A-10s and F/A-18Cs landed in Clark last week.
According to US Navy, this year’s Balikatan focuses on maritime security and amphibious capabilities, as well as multinational interoperability through military exchanges.
“Exercises like Balikatan strengthen international partnerships and the participating militaries’ abilities to rapidly respond in unison to crises throughout the Indo-Pacific region,” it added.
