Singapore eyes initial 4 F-35s

Singapore Minister for Defense Dr. Ng Eng Hen revealed today during the Committee of Supply debate on the defense budget in Parliament that plans to acquire F-35s as a replacement for the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)’s F-16 fighter aircraft are well under way.

He said that Singapore Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) will begin with the acquisition of four F-35s for a start to assess their suitability, with an option of a subsequent eight should Singapore decides to proceed.

Dr. Ng noted that MINDEF would continue to work with the US Department of Defense to optimize the F-35s’ operating and maintenance costs.
