The Combat Utility Helicopter (CUH) acquisition project for Philippine Air Force (PAF) under Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Second Horizon was awarded in favor of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation – PZL Mielec with Notice of Award released in February 2019, MaxDefense Philippines said citing reliable sources.

MaxDefense added that contract signing may take place soon.

The said acquisition project will supply PAF with 16 Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawks made in Poland and certified by US-based Lockheed Martin Sikorsky.

“According to the manufacturer, they can produce the whole lot in two years time, but what our Air Force want is once the contract is signed they want deliveries in the next six months – even just couple of choppers to be delivered, maybe monthly thereafter until the whole lot is delivered,” National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on January 16 during Senate plenary discussion on DND’s 2019 budget.

Training materials will be in English and training of PAF pilots will be in United States.

“The Lockheed Martin of USA bought a plant (PZL Mielec) in Poland and transferred the technology of manufacturing the Black Hawk. So these are actually American products manufactured in Poland, so the certification will be coming from Sikorsky (a Lockheed Martin Company),” Lorenzana said.
