Senator JV Ejercito expressed during the Senate session on January 16 that he felt relieved when he knew that the Department of National Defense (DND) is acquiring Black Hawk helicopters from Lockheed Martin Sikorsky for the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
Though built in Poland, the S-70i Black Hawk helicopters will be certified by US-based Lockheed Martin Sikorsky.
“During our conversations in the past, wala pa ‘ho ito sa picture. Actually I have to be honest with you, I was surprised and I was quite happy because ibang level na itong Black Hawk,” the senator said.
“Because last time we were discussing that the President wanted to get, considering choppers from Russia or from South Korea, or even China. So buti nalang may pumasok na ganito, kasi kinakabahan ‘ho ako ‘pag dun ‘ho tayo kumuha,” he added.
Secretary Lorenzana noted that prior to finally deciding for the Black Hawk, the Philippine Air Force considered the Russian Mil Mi-17, Korean Surion, and AgustaWestland, now Leonardo, AW-139.
