Troops of 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion grasped a bombing plot when an improvised explosive device (IED) was found in Brgy Poblacion, Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat at 5 o’clock in the morning, June 15, 2018.
A concerned civilian relayed an information to the army that one unattended baggage left by unidentified person along the National highway town of Esperanza.
The 12th Mechanized Company under 1lt Anjelou N. Peralta proceeded in the area and cordoned the suspected IED to secure the motorist for possible explosion.
After the area was secured by the troops, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) of the Sultan Kudarat, Police Provincial Office rendered safety procedures and found inside the bag the following IED components: time fuse, plastic container, packaging tape, pieces of metallic items, gray powdered substance, and detonator.
Last May 27, 2018, a bombing attack was also pre-empted when an IED was found by the government troops in same town.
The Commander of 6th Infantry Division, Brig. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana, said that the series of bombing plots were meant to create terror perpetuated by the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
“I commend the troops for their fast action to avert the series of bombing attempts. Your efforts, enthusiasm, hard work, and determination finally paid off said Sobejana.
He also commended the cooperation of the civilians for being vigilant and immediately reported the incident to the military and PNP. 6ID
