Sailing crew training for donated Korean corvette in final phase

The training of sailing crew of future BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39), donated retired South Korean Pohang-class corvette Chungju, is now in the final phase.

Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said at the 121st anniversary celebration of Philippine Navy that BRP Conrado Yap will be sailing for Philippines in July.

“The 60 sailing crew of the Pohang corvette are now in there final phase of training. The ship will be named after Korean war hero Captain Conrado Yap,” Vice Admiral Empedrad said.

“It has two 76mm guns and two twin barrel 30mm guns. It also has torpedo launchers and sonar capability that can detect submarines,” he added.

He added MPACs and the arriving corvette will be deployed to Mindanao to help end insurgency.
