The Russian Embassy in the Philippines has expressed gratitude to the Philippines for its warm welcome for three Russian Navy ships anti-submarine destroyer Admiral Panteleyev, guided-missile cruiser Varyag, and large sea tanker Boris Botuma.
These ships arrived on January 6 for a goodwill visit until January 11. This is the first reported goodwill visit made by a foreign navy to the Philippines in 2019.
“The visit aims to strengthen the relationship between the two navies. It will further enhance and sustain the promotion of peace, stability, and maritime cooperation of the two countries through naval diplomacy and camaraderie,” the Philippine Navy said on the day of three Russian Navy ships’ arrival.
“Series of confidence building activities with their PN counterparts will be conducted such as reciprocal reception, goodwill games followed by a boodle fight and shipboard tour that is also open for civilians. A send-off ceremony with customary Passing Exercise (PASSEX) will cap off their visit,” the Philippine Navy added.
