Russia invites Philippines to send Navy ship

Chief of Philippine Navy Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said that Russia is inviting the Philippines to send Navy ship for a visit.

“May invitation tayo sa Russia na kung pwede mag-padala tayo ng barko natin sa kanila,” Vice Admiral Empedrad said over DWDD on June 13.

“We will be sending ship to Russia in first quarter [2019], and we are sending a lot of ships to other multilateral exercises around the region,” he added.

The Navy chief made the announcement as Philippine Navy ships BRP Davao Del Sur (LD602) and BRP Andres Bonifacio (FF17) with an embarked AW 109 naval helicopter are en route to Hawaii to attend Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018 scheduled on June 27 to August 2.

This is the first time Philippines is sending naval assets to the said massive naval warfare exercise. The Philippines had been participating in past RIMPAC by sending personnel as observers.
